All-On-4 Dental Implants Mesa AZ Robison Dental Group

All –on-4 Dental Implants

There are a couple different types of dental implants; the All-On-4 is one of them.  The All-on-4 Dental Implant uses only four implants per arch while being placed at an angle that allows increased contact by using the natural support of your bone. With Standard dental implants they require the use of 6 to 8 implants per arch and sometimes bone grafts are needed for those who don’t have enough bone to support the implant.  The All-On-4 Dental Implants procedure requires no bone grafting.

More About All-On-4 Dental Implants

Patients who are wearing dentures or who may need dentures in future are perfect candidates for the All-On-4 dental implant procedure along with, those who have failing teeth or no teeth, and The All-On -4 dental implant process is friendlier to our patients. The All-On-4 procedure is less invasive and requires little healing time and can be done in one visit to Dr. Robison.  They are easy to clean and care for so keeping up with your good oral hygiene is simple.

Mesa AZ Dentist Dental Implant Supported Denture Types

Two Types of Implant Supported Dentures

There are two different types of implant supported dentures; the bar-retained and the ball-retained. Both dentures are made of an acrylic base that resembles your gums and porcelain or acrylic teeth that look natural which are attached to that base. Both kinds of the implant supported dentures requires at least two implants for support.

Bar-retained Denture Dental Implant:

The Bar-retained Denture is a thin metal bar that follows the curve of your jaw and attached to two implants, or as many as five implants that would be placed in the jawbone. Clips and other attachments are fitted to the bar or denture, possibly both. The denture fits over the bar and is securely clipped in place by the attachment.

Ball (Stud) - retained Denture Dental Implant:

Each implant in the jawbone holds a metal attachment that fits on the denture to another attachment. In most cases the attachments on the denture are ball shaped and fit into sockets. Sometimes the denture will hold the ball shaped attachment and the implant will hold the socket that the ball shaped attachment fits into. This type of denture implant can also be used on the upper jawbone.

Dental Implant Supported Dentures Mesa AZ Cosmetic Dentist

Dental Implant Supported Dentures

An implant supported Denture is a type of Dental Implant that’s supported by implants. They are not like traditional dentures which rest on the gums and no implant support. They are more stable and there is less risk of an implant supported denture moving or falling out.

Implant supported dentures are used when there aren't many teeth left in the jaw, but there is enough jawbone to support the implants. Implant supported Dentures are usually made for the lower jaw. With more traditional dentures the lower jaw is more unstable. They can also be made to fit the upper jaw.
The Dental implants are placed more to the front of the jaw bone rather than the back because there are less nerves that could get in the way of the Dental implant being placed. Two surgeries are typically needed for the Dental implant supported denture.

The First Dental Implant Surgery

Dr. Robison will place the implants in the jawbone under the gums.

The Second Dental Implant Surgery

Dr. Robison will expose the tops of the implants. This surgery happens 3 to 6 months after the first. Sometimes a one stage procedure is used, This means that the implants and the supporting bar are placed at the same time.

Take out your Implant supported denture at night and for cleaning. Make sure to clean around attachment carefully.

Dental Implants Crowns and Bridges Mesa AZ Dentist

Mesa AZ Dentist Dental Implants Crowns and Bridges

A Dental Implant is a "root" device, usually made of titanium, used in dentistry to support restorations that resemble a tooth or group of teeth to replace missing teeth. Virtually all dental implants placed today are root-form endosseous implants; they appear similar to an actual tooth root and are placed within the bone. The bone of the jaw accepts and osseointegrates with the titanium post. Dental implants will fuse with the bone. Dental implants can be used to support a number of dental prostheses, including crowns,
implant supported bridges or dentures

A Crown is a type of dental restoration that caps a tooth or dental implant.
Crowns are often needed when a large cavity threatens the ongoing health of a tooth. They are typically bonded to the tooth using a type of dental cement. Crowns can be made from many materials, which are usually fabricated using indirect methods. There are different types and materials that patients can
choose from. The most popular ones are full gold crowns or porcelain-fuse-to-metal crowns.

A Bridge is also known as a fixed partial denture, a dental restoration used to replace a missing tooth by joining permanently to adjacent teeth or by use of dental implants. A bridge is fabricated by reducing the teeth on either side of the missing tooth or teeth by a preparation pattern determined by the location of the teeth and by the material from which the bridge is fabricated. In other words, the abutment teeth are reduced in size to accommodate the material to be used to restore the size and shape of the original teeth in a correct alignment and contact with the opposing teeth. The materials used for the bridges include gold, porcelain fused to metal, or porcelain alone.

Mesa AZ Dentist Plate or Blade Type Dental Implants

Plate or Blade Type Dental Implants

A Plate, or Blade type implant, is a Dental Implant that is inserted right into the patients jawbone. This is due to their jawbone not being wide enough or structurally sound enough to support a regular dental implant properly.

The Plate type implant is designed differently; it is a long and narrow flat blade type of device attached directly to the jawbone to support the implant.  The Plate type Implant would then take 3 – 4 to complete the osseointegration period.  **In some cases implants are immediately fitted with the restoration without waiting for the osseointegration period.  Dr. Robison will determine if the Blade form implant is right for you, and if the restoration can begin at the same time.

Pros and Cons of Plate or Blade Type Dental Implants

The biggest draw back or challenge of the plate type implant is that it’s more difficult to place since it is actually being inserted right in the jawbone.
The best thing about plate form implant is that it allows implants in places where the jaw bone is to thin and not able to support the heavier screw implants.  If the plate type implant isn’t used,  the patient would possibly need a bone graft to help support the heavier screw implant.
